Rosacea Treatment

Get Clear Skin with Personalised Rosacea Skincare

Rosacea is a common skin condition which may present with redness, flushing, visible blood vessels and sometimes acne-like bumps on the face. At City Skin Clinic, we understand how rosacea can affect your self-confidence and comfort. We offer personalised rosacea prescription strength treatment creams to calm irritation, reduce face redness, smooth texture and enhance the appearance of your skin.

What Causes Rosacea?

Whilst the exact cause of rosacea remains unknown, it is believed to result from a combination of genetic and environmental factors. Triggers include sun exposure, stress, spicy foods, alcohol and harsh skincare products. Everyone has a different rosacea experience so identifying your specific triggers is a key part of effectively managing symptoms.

It is also important to understand that, rosacea can manifest in several ways. This is important as it determines the best treatment for you. The main signs and symptoms of rosacea include:

  • Facial redness or flushing
  • Skin sensitivity and irritation
  • Visible blood vessels (telangiectasia)
  • Acne-like bumps or pimples (acne rosacea)
  • Thickening skin particularly around the nose (this is called rhinophyma and occurs in advanced stages)
  • Eye irritation and dryness (ocular rosacea)

Why Personalisation Matters

At City Skin Clinic, we believe in a comprehensive approach to rosacea treatment, tailored to each patient’s skin type, wishes and concerns. Our doctors create personalised treatment plans using custom made prescription strength rosacea face creams. We can also further customise your rosacea treatment to gently address additional skin concerns such as hyperpigmentation or skin ageing. Your doctor will also help design a skincare routine to use with your face cream that helps meet your skin needs and overall goals even beyond rosacea.

Personalised Prescription Strength Rosacea Treatment

At City Skin Clinic, we’re proud to offer safe and effective personalised rosacea treatments through our online skin clinic. Your treatment is carefully designed based on your skin, medical history and goals. Your doctor will also take into account your preferences and any additional treatment aims as much as possible when designing your rosacea face cream. We offer two types of treatment protocols: ROS and ROS+. Both of these are custom rosacea treatments but have some important differences:

  • ROS: This is our standard once a day rosacea treatment protocol designed to manage redness, inflammation, and mild bumps or pimples associated with rosacea. This involves a single topical face cream and is suitable for moderate rosacea or for ongoing maintenance. Your face cream can also be designed to address additional moderate skin concerns such as texture, wrinkles or hyperpigmentation in addition to rosacea.
  • ROS+: This is our advanced rosacea treatment protocol designed for more severe rosacea symptoms or if you have multiple skin concerns in addition to rosacea that can not be addressed with a single cream. ROS+ typically involves two products (a morning and night cream). Your doctor will usually prescribe ROS+ for a limited period before eventually transitioning to ROS for ongoing maintenance.

Ingredients in Our Rosacea Treatments

We always design a personalised rosacea treatment plan for each and every one of our patients. Your doctor will select active ingredients based on your individual skin concerns and treatment goals taking into account your preferences as much as possible. The formulation of your rosacea face cream may be adjusted at the end of each course of treatment based on your skin’s response. Here are some of the prescription strength ingredients we may use in our rosacea face creams and gels:

  • Azelaic Acid: This gentle exfoliant also has anti-inflammatory properties. As such azelaic acid can help to reduce redness, inflammation and acne-like bumps.
  • Metronidazole: As a topical antibiotic can help control inflammation, reduce facial redness and treat acne in rosacea.
  • Ivermectin: This medication can target inflammation and reduce rosacea-related bumps or pustules.
  • Niacinamide: Due to its anti-inflammatory and skin barrier-strengthening properties, niacinamide can help reduce redness and sensitivity.
  • Tretinoin: This retinoid promotes skin cell turnover, helping improve skin texture, reduce inflammation and manage rosacea-related bumps and pustules. It requires different dosing, application and greater monitoring in patients with rosacea due to its potency.

There rare also other ingredients that your doctor can add to help target additional concerns such as melasma, hyperpigmentation, scars and skin ageing based on your skin needs and wishes. Please note our doctors will only use prescription medications in rosacea treatments if they deem them safe and appropriate.

Regain Confidence with Personalised Rosacea Treatments

Rosacea is a chronic skin condition that can be persistent with cycles of redness, breakouts and sensitivity. With the correct personalised treatments, it is possible to help calm and improve the quality of your skin. By using targeted active and prescription ingredients (where appropriate) in our custom rosacea treatment creams, we can help calm the skin, even out tone and smooth texture. We can also customise your rosacea treatment to address additional skin problems such as skin ageing, acne and hyperpigmentation. Whether you require our once daily ROS or twice-daily ROS+ treatment, your doctor will ensure that your treatment is tailored around your skin concerns, goals and wishes as much as possible.

Frequently asked questions

No it is not. We are really passionate about putting you in control of your treatment. Everyone responds differently and we may adjust your treatment formula after completing each course based on how your skin responds. That's why we don't think subscriptions make sense for a personalised journey. We leave it up to you to let us know when you need a refill and we make it very easy to order these.

We encourage all our patients to express any preferences they have in terms of treatment during the consultation. Wherever possible we will respect and accommodate these as long as we feel it is medically safe and beneficial to do so. Ultimately our aim is to provide you with the best solution for your concern and we'll design your treatment to achieve that.

This depends on how frequently you use it and how much you use. In general if used as instructed then the treatment should last 3 months for use on the face. Please note that compounded treatments always have an expiry date of 3 months.

We treat most of types of rosacea except for ocular (eye) rosacea, We also do not recommend using topical treatments alone for advanced cases of rosacea like rhinophyma.

Results can vary from person to person. Some people may see improvements in as little as four weeks, while others may need several months of treatment. Patience and consistency are key.

Your doctor will design a treatment to take into account your skin sensitivities.

Your doctor may add prescription ingredients into your custom treatment if we think it would benefit you.

Rosacea can be a persistent condition, and while our treatments aim to reduce symptoms and flare-ups, they do not cure it. Maintaining a consistent skincare routine and avoiding triggers are necessary to maintain progress.

We can only offer treatments after a consultation with a doctor as they may use prescription medicines in the formula if they feel it is appropriate for you. This ensures that the treatment is safe for you to use and that it meets your treatment goals. Your doctor will also be able to answer any questions you have and provide you with a personalised treatment plan so you get the most out of your treatment and avoid irritation or side-effects.

Yes. We offer either online consultation forms or video appointments. Whatever option you choose, you will have the same doctor dedicated to you throughout your treatment and get a personalised experience.

You will have direct access to your doctor by email so you can ask questions, get advice and let them know if you have any problems.

No, you just need to reach out to your doctor by email and they will arrange your follow up. This maybe by email or a virtual video follow up depending on the problem.

Absolutely not. We never charge for any follow up or aftercare. You can contact your doctor at any time for advice, updates and any issues.

No, you can just email your doctor and they will assist you.

Nope! All our prices are as listed on the website. The fees also include delivery.

These will depend on the composition of your treatment and will be explained in more detail by your doctor. For example if a treatment contains Tretinoin and/or Azelaic acid these can cause some initial skin irritation including redness and peeling. This is usually temporary and subsides as your skin adjusts to the product. You may also experience purging. Always use sun protection as some ingredients can increase your skin’s sensitivity to the sun and lead to rebound hyperpigmentation. For more info visit the individual ingredient pages.

We have different options in terms of the cream and use the one we feel is best for the patient's skin and the active ingredients we're using. Below are the ingredients for the main bases we use.

Compounded treatments like the ones we use are unlicensed medications because they are custom-made for each patient based on a specific formulation tailored to their unique needs. Unlike licensed medications, which are approved by regulatory bodies for general use, compounded treatments are created by pharmacists to meet the specific requirements of an individual patient as prescribed by their doctor. While they do not undergo the same approval process as licensed medications, they offer a personalised approach that can address specific concerns where a licensed treatment doesn't exist effectively under professional supervision.
