Clindamycin (1%)

This topical antibiotic targets acne causing bacteria and reduces inflammation.

Clindamycin is a powerful antibiotic that can be used as a cream on the skin to treat acne. It mainly works by killing the acne causing bacteria. It binds to the bacterial ribosome hence preventing protein synthesis and thereby stopping bacterial growth. This action reduces the bacterial load on the skin, which also helps to decrease inflammation and prevent future breakouts.

Clindamycin Benefits

The main benefits of using Clindamycin on the skin are for treating acne and reducing associated inflammation to clear up and calm the skin. However this is a prescription only medication and antibiotics should never be misused or overused. When used appropriately, Clindamycin gel or cream treatments work on the skin to help target:

  • Acne & Inflammation
  • Bacterial Skin Infections

Compounded treatments like the ones we use are unlicensed medications because they are custom-made for each patient based on a specific formulation tailored to their unique needs. Unlike licensed medications, which are approved by regulatory bodies for general use, compounded treatments are created by pharmacists to meet the specific requirements of an individual patient as prescribed by their doctor. While they do not undergo the same approval process as licensed medications, they offer a personalised approach that can address specific concerns where a licensed treatment doesn't exist effectively under professional supervision.
