What does the cheek enhancement procedure involve?

The treatment begins with our doctor cleaning the skin then applying a numbing cream. She will then inject the dermal filler using a needle, microcannula or both (depending on the type of enhancement needed) at different points around the midface region. This will result in enhancement of the size, shape and definition of the cheekbones as well as augment and lift the face.

When will I see results and how long do they last for?

The results of dermal cheek fillers treatment are visible immediately although there may be some swelling which will settle over the next few days. The outcome lasts for up to 6 months unless you opted for longer lasting dermal fillers which last up to 12 months.

Firstly your doctor will record your medical history and discuss areas of concern and potential treatment options that would be appropriate for you. Then she will design a personalised facial rejuvenation plan tailored to your needs. Since our appointment times are generous, you can be sure that you will receive detailed advice on the most suitable treatment options for you. It is possible to have the treatment on the same day as the consultation or to book another appointment as long as you have booked a "consultation and potential treatment" appointment when booking online and provided it is appropriate for you and that there are no medical contraindications that would make the treatment unsuitable or unsafe for you. If you would like to proceed with the treatment, we will obtain your consent for the procedure and take pre-procedure photographs.

If you would like to proceed with the treatment, the doctor will apply numbing cream or a numbing injection to ensure that you are comfortable during the procedure. When you are comfortable, your doctor will administer the dermal filler with a very fine needle. The doses used will vary depending on the desired result although we will decide with you beforehand how many syringes of filler will be required to treat a specific problem area(s). Hyaluronic acid is safe when applied to the skin or given through injections. It rarely causes allergic reactions. Of course, it is still possible that you will experience injection-related effects, such as slight pain, itching or swelling, after the treatment. These effects only last a few hours or days, depending on the patient and their condition. As part of a detailed consultation, we will explain the benefits and any potential or theoretical side effects or complications related to any of our procedures.

Although it varies between patients, it is normal to have swelling around the treated area. This swelling usually lasts for around a week (sometimes longer). As a result, we offer a free follow-up consultation within the first 4-6 weeks following your treatment. Additionally, we are happy to answer questions at any time by phone or e-mail.

The effects of fillers normally last up to 4 to 6 months depending on your skin, the type of area injected and type of filler used. If you opted for longer lasting fillers (please see our fess page for the brands of fillers we use) then this can last up to 12 months. If you want to maintain the effect then you will need further injections when the fillers wear off. However, if for some reason you are unhappy with the result, we can reverse the effect of dermal fillers using Hyaluronidase injection. This is a service that we provide for free should our patients require it.
