Juvederm Range of Fillers (Archive)
Juvéderm® is a brand of hyaluronic acid dermal filler produced by Allergan Ltd. They are probably one of the most famous and most commonly used types of dermal filler in the UK. Juvederm fillers are used for a variety of facial filler treatments and come in a variety of formulations which can be used to contour the face, replace lost volume, enhance the cheeks and smooth wrinkles.
There are a number of different dermal filler formulations and brands. Whilst Juvederm is the main filler we use at City Skin Clinic, this still depends on the site and effect of treatment required. For instance, we only used Teosyal Redensity II for tear trough correction as it is the only filler approved for under eye treatment. Where we wish to augment volume or lift skin, the Juvederm brand of filler is in most cases our first choice.
Please note we no longer offer non surgical aesthetic treatments but have kept the below info as part of our archives.
What is the difference between Juvederm Ultra and Juvederm Vycross?
There are two ranges of Juvederm fillers made by Allergan. These are Juvederm Ultra and Juvederm Vycross. Juvederm Ultra is Allergan’s first generation hyaluronic acid dermal filler. These fillers are made by cross-linking (joining) hyaluronic acid molecules of the same size to make an injectable gel which is used as a dermal filler. The Juvederm Vycross range is Allergan’s second generation filler. ‘Vycross’ refers to the unique composition of the filler which uses specific crosslinking technology to join hyaluronic acid molecules of different sizes. Whilst this also produces an injectable gel, there are some difference that his manufacturing process imparts. The Vycross range of fillers last longer than Ultra. Depending on the filler, the Vycross range can be injected deeper for a greater lift (Juvederm Volift), more volume (Juvederm Voluma or Juvederm Volux) or for a smoother application (Juvederm Volbella) compared with Juvederm Ultra. Due to this, the Vycross range of fillers is more expensive. They both have their place in use in aesthetics and which filler to opt for will depend on your treatment needs and your budget.
What is Juvederm Filler most commonly used for?
Juvederm filler contains hyaluronic acid which in nature is responsible for plumping, hydrating and firming the skin. In cosmetics, Juvederm filler can be used for a range of anti-wrinkle and facial volume restoring treatments. At City Skin Clinic, we use Juvederm filler for the following treatments:
Smoothing deep wrinkles, lines and fold such as marionette lines, nose to mouth lines or jowls
Restoring midface volume and contour through cheek enhancement with cheek fillers
Lip enhancement and augmentation using Juvederm lip fillers
In combination with Botox injections to lift, redefine and rejuvenate the face through our liquid facelift
Are there any Juvederm Filler side effects?
Whilst Juvederm fillers are widely available, it is extremely important to opt for treatment in a clinical setting by a medical professional such as an experienced aesthetic doctor. This is because any type of dermal filler is a foreign implant being placed in the face. As such, it is important that a reputable brand of hyaluronic acid filler like Juvederm filler is used. Secondly, the filler should be injected by someone who is knowledgeable about the anatomy of the face. Placement of the filler in the incorrect location can cause wounds, lumps, infections, scarring or in the worst case scenarios get into blood vessels and cause blindness.
Even in the best hands, there are potential side effects of Juvederm fillers such as bruising, swelling, redness, asymmetry or allergy. These side effects can be minimised or managed effectively if they occur by an experienced doctor.
How long do Juvederm fillers last?
In general, Juvederm Ultra filler lasts around 6-12 months whilst the Vycross range can last up to 18 months. In mobile areas of the face like the nose to mouth lines or lips, the fillers last for a shorter time than in more static areas. The amount of time dermal fillers last also depends on your own metabolism. Ultimately all hyaluronic acid dermal fillers are temporary and they can be dissolved using hyaluronidase enzyme should you dislike the result or if there are any complications.
What is the cost of Juvederm filler treatment London?
Unfortunately, dermal filler treatments are not well regulated in the UK and hence you can find a large number of places offering them (including mobile beauticians)! Additionally, the cost of treatment will also depend on the type of treatment needed, the amount of filler required and the expertise of the doctor performing it. As such, the price seems to vary. As a general guide though, treatments using real Juvederm Ultra filler performed by an experienced doctor in London tend to start from around £350 whilst the cost of treatment with the Juvederm Vycross range tends to start from £450 per 1ml of filler.
What is the difference between Botox and Dermal Fillers?
As a general rule of thumb, Botox injections are best for treating wrinkles that appear when you move your face like smile lines, frown lines and forehead wrinkles. They are also great for non-surgical neck lifts in the case of a sagging neck, heavy brows, jawline sculpting or smoker’s lines. Hyaluronic acid dermal fillers like Juvederm filler, are best for set wrinkles, deep lines and folds since they restore lost volume, plump up and lift the skin. We combine both Botox injections and Juvederm dermal fillers to volumise, contour and rejuvenate the face in our bespoke liquid facelift treatment.
