A BRIEF GUIDE TO LIP ENHANCEMENT

Lip enhancement using hyaluronic acid lip fillers are becoming increasingly sought after with celebrities like Kylie Jenner popularising the treatment. So, if you’re tempted by augmenting the size of your lips or improving the definition of their shape, we’ve put together this post on everything you’ve wanted to know about lip enhancement but were too afraid to ask. We especially focus on the use of lip injections with fillers such as Juvederm and Teosyal, which we use a lot of at City Skin Clinic.

A Look at Lip Enhancement

You will have two main options when choosing this type of enhancement. Some will opt for a surgical procedure while others prefer injections. Surgical enhancement may involve the use of fat grafting or implants such as silicon. This is however an invasive procedure which usually requires a general anaesthetic and is costly. The results are however permanent which is good in that it does not need to be treated but they may need refinement as you age to balance the face.

A temporary but non-surgical approach is hyaluronic acid into the lips produces and plump and full effect. As the process is minimally invasive, you will experience little discomfort while the results are instantaneous. This is an outpatient treatment and one session can normally produce the desired visual results. Hyaluronic acid is found naturally in the body and dermal lip fillers are made of synthetic hyaluronic acid which is known to be safe and well tolerated. These fillers have been around for a number of decades and are used in a variety of cosmetic procedure such as wrinkle filling and lip augmentation.

What Does the Process Involve?

Hyaluronic acid lip fillers are performed by injecting the filler into the lip and surrounding areas to enhance definition and increase volume. In the majority of cases, this type of lip augmentation will take no longer than 30 minutes. So, you will be able to return to your daily activities in no time at all. The doctor will rub a topical numbing cream on your lips prior to the injections themselves and at City Skin Clinic we also use an injection of anaesthetic in the mouth to completely numb the lips. As the needle is extremely thin, you are not likely to experience discomfort. The hyaluronic acid will immediately attract water from the surrounding tissue. The results are visible instantly but there may be some swelling or bruising which peaks in the first 24-48 hours and then settles to give the final shape. In most instances, the results will last 6-12 months before you require another injection. This also depends upon the appearance that you desire.

The Benefits of Hyaluronic Acid Fillers Including Teosyal and Juvederm

Hyaluronic acid is already produced by the body but reduces in quantity as we age. The synthetic Hyaluronic acid used in lip fillers is safe and well tolerated. It does not contain any animal products which reduces the risk of adverse reactions. Professional-grade lip fillers such as Juvederm and Teosyal boast superior levels of quality control and the suspension of acid within the gel is thought to be more stable than some other brands. Thus, it is said that the effects could sometimes last well over one year. This can be an important advantage in terms of saving you money when compared to having to return for multiple injections over the same period of time. Finally, these two fillers are quite respected throughout the cosmetics industry and many different clinics will offer them as treatment options.

This is only meant to be a brief summary of the overall process as well as the choice of the leading brands of products currently available. Offering you quick results and few (if any) side effects, such procedures can be welcome alternatives when compared to surgery. It is always a good idea to consult with a trained doctor to learn more or if you have additional questions then contact us.
