Guide to Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty
A common question we hear is if there are ways to alter the shape of your nose without surgery. In this guide we explore the non-surgical rhinoplasties also known as the “liquid nose job”. This is a procedure which uses injectable fillers to quickly straighten, lift and reshape the nose. If you have never heard of this cosmetic procedure before and want to know more about how it works, keep reading! We will tell you everything you need to know and cover some important topics, such as what non-surgical rhinoplasty is and how much it costs.
What Is Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty?
Non-surgical rhinoplasty, also known as nose filler or a liquid nose job, is a dermal filler procedure. The process alters the shape of the nose by smoothing out any bumps to straighten the bridge of the nose. This procedure can also help make the nose look less angular and even lift a droopy tip.
Non-surgical rhinoplasty differs from surgical rhinoplasty. The biggest benefit is that you don’t have to go under the knife. Instead, your practitioner will use a small needle to inject the dermal filler beneath the skin. Another key difference between this procedure and surgical rhinoplasty is that there is very little downtime. However, non-surgical rhinoplasty can not make the nose small or address big deformities like surgery can. Despite this, it can still be an ideal treatment for those looking for a temporary nose job to reshape and improve the appearance of their nose.
How Does Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty Work?
To help you understand how a non-surgical rhinoplasty works, we have detailed each stage of the process below – starting with what happens before the procedure.
Before the procedure
You will attend an initial consultation with an experienced and qualified medical practitioner. You will discuss your concerns and desired results. Your aesthetic practitioner will explain how the procedure works and if it is right for your needs. They will also discuss with you the potential risks and side effects. A good practitioner will also guide you through how they intend to reduce these risks and manage them if they do happen.
During the procedure
Before starting, your practitioner will cleanse the treatment area and numb the skin with a topical anaesthetic. This is to reduce risk of infection and ensure your comfort. They will then inject the gel-like filler beneath the skin in the target areas and layers to reshape the nose. We recommend only premium hyaluronic acid dermal fillers like Juvederm Voluma or Volux hyaluronic acid dermal fillers for this procedure. You should not feel any pain during this procedure. However, you might feel a slight pinching sensation when the needle goes in or pushing and pulling, but this is nothing to worry about. The procedure can take anywhere between 15 to 45 minutes, depending on the complexity of the treatment area.
After the procedure
The best thing about non-surgical rhinoplasty is that you will be able to see the result immediately after the treatment. There may be a tiny bit of bruising and swelling but these will resolve after a few days. You should receive some aftercare guidance from your clinic. This will include what things to look out for in terms of side effects and complications as well as how long to avoid exercise for, wearing glasses and touching the area. Ensure you follow this guidance to help you achieve your desired results and if you have any concerns or are not sure, contact your practitioner.
How Long Does Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty Last?
The longevity of your non-surgical rhinoplasty results will differ based on a few factors, such as:
- Your metabolism as this decides how quickly your body breaks down the filler
- The type and thickness of the filler used
Typically, with Juvederm Voluma and Volux, the results will last for up to 12 to 18 months. Non-surgical rhinoplasty is not a permanent procedure. However, many of our clients see this as a benefit. Not only do you not have to commit to a permanent change, but it is an excellent alternative for those who are not ready to commit to surgical rhinoplasty or who just want a little improvement that helps them avoid a big surgery. If you want a temporary nose job, to even see if nose reshaping is for you, this procedure is a good course of action. If you want to prolong and maintain the results of your nose filler, you can repeat the treatment once the filler has worn off
Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty Aftercare And Recovery
One great advantage of non-surgical rhinoplasty is that the recovery time is minimal. You can return to your daily activities straight away. You do not need to take any time off work. Although this cosmetic procedure is non-surgical, there are still some aftercare instructions that you need to abide by. By following aftercare guidance correctly, you can speed up your recovery – while achieving the best results possible from your treatment. Take a look at our aftercare tips below:
- Avoid touching the treatment area for six hours post-treatment.
- Refrain from exposing the treatment area to intense heat until any swelling or bruising has gone down.
- Do not wear glasses for up to four weeks after the treatment. This could alter the nose enhancement as the dermal filler is still malleable.
Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty Before And After
You can find plenty of non-surgical rhinoplasty before and after pictures online but please remember results will always vary from person to person. In general the procedure can make the nose look much straighter and smoother. If done correctly, it can reshape the nose, lift the tip and balance the profile. However, please remember that nothing can replace a surgical rhinoplasty if you need a drastic change.
Nose Filler Side Effects
Like all cosmetic procedures, there are some side effects to be aware of with non-surgical rhinoplasty. Whilst it is true that if done properly, this treatment is less risky than surgical rhinoplasty. However, it is still important to proceed with caution. It is still a medical procedure with potential risks and side effects. Take time to review and understand all the potential side effects which include the below:
- Bruising of the treatment area
- Redness and swelling
- Infection
- Filler migration – this occurs when the filler moves to another part of the nose
- Vascular occlusion
If you experience any of the above symptoms or are concerned in anyway, you must consult with your practitioner. Do not take any risks and do this as soon as possible. Please take your aftercare instructions very seriously to aid the recovery process.
Vascular Occlusion
The most serious risk of the liquid nose job procedure is vascular occlusion. This is when filler blocks the blood supply and can cause death of the skin and cartilage tissues in that area. If not resolved quickly can lead to permanent scars and disfigurement. Even worse, if filler gets into a vessel it can migrate upwards and block the blood supply to the eye. In this case, it can cause loss of vision. This catastrophic event, also known as filler blindness, is thankfully rare. However, it is not something to dismiss or play down. That is why this treatment should only be performed by a medical professional who understands the anatomy of the area. They must also be able to immediately recognise the signs of vascular occlusion and dissolve filler in an emergency to prevent long-term damage.
Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty Cost UK
The good news is a non-surgical rhinoplasty is a lot cheaper than surgical rhinoplasty. It is however a temporary procedure which you need to repeat to maintain the results. On average, you can expect to pay anywhere between £600 to £1500 for non-surgical rhinoplasty in London. This cost reflects the complexity of this “liquid nose job” procedure. Only a few practitioners are qualified and experienced to perform safely and effectively. The cost usually reflects:
- The qualifications and experiences of the practitioner
- The reputation of the clinic
- Quality of the products used and personalisation of the treatment
- Aftercare
