Botox Treatment for Vertical Lip Lines

Our combined Botox ® injections and dermal filler smoker's lines treatment will smooth away verticle lip lines and restore lost shape to that area. This bespoke treatment is carried out by our experienced doctors and will instantly refresh the appearance of these fine lines and wrinkles.

Vertical lip lines or smoker’s lines are fine lines and wrinkles that go from the edges of the lips outwards either towards the nose or the chin (or both). They are very common in men and women and can be a source of self-consciousness. Whilst they are also called smoker’s lines, they can affect non smokers also. Since the lips are a highly expressive part of the face lines and wrinkles naturally develop over time as we get older. Vertical lip lines are made worse by the thinning of the skin (due to lost collagen and elastin) which occurs when we age. This not only highlights these lines but also reduces the structure and definition of the lip area. Other causes of vertical lip lines include sun damage and genetic factors. In women, these lines can seem more prominent as they cause lipstick feathering or bleeding. The best lip lines treatments reflect the diversity and complexity of vertical lip lines.

The Effective Treatment for Vertical Lip Lines (Smoker’s lines)

Our combined approach to treating vertical lip lines uses anti-wrinkle muscle relaxing injections (with Botox ® injections ) and hyaluronic acid dermal fillers. This treatment is effective because it tackles the two main causes of vertical lip lines. One is overactivity of the underlying muscle. Hence, the muscle relaxing injections stop puckering and wrinkling of the skin. The second is that once these vertical lip lines form they become ingrained. So the hyaluronic acid dermal fillers help lift these lines and support them. To finish off we use dermal fillers to restore the outline of the lips which provides further support to this area which in women will help with lipstick bleeding or feathering.

Topical Treatments for Smokers Lines

If you’re not keen or ready for injectables, there are other treatments that can smooth your lip lines. The first is retinoids such as retinol and prescription options like Tretinoin. These are a potent derivatives of vitamin A and have long been a cornerstone in anti-ageing skincare. Retinoids work by promoting collagen production and accelerating cell turnover. WIth regular use, retinoids can reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles including vertical lip lines. Other options include chemical peels, lasers and microneedling which can can also smooth lines and improve your skin quality.

Frequently asked questions

You will have a consultation with one of our aesthetic doctors. During this time, they will record your medical history, discuss with you your problem areas and outline the treatment options that would be suitable for you. Afterwards, your doctor will consider your whole face and develop a personalised treatment plan which will include any suitable treatments for you and the cost of the treatments. If your personalised treatment plan includes anti-wrinkle injections and you are happy to proceed with the treatment, we will take your consent for the procedure. Additionally, you will also have a photograph taken of the area you want treating. You can either have the treatment on the same day as the consultation or book another appointment.

If you decide to have the treatment and our doctor deems that it is appropriate based on a full consultation, then the doctor will administer the injections with a very fine needle. Most people report that it feels like a pinching sensation. Additionally, we can provide numbing cream or an ice-pack to minimise discomfort although most people find this unnecessary.

After your treatment you will be given a leaflet with a full explanation of what has been done, what to do for the first few days and any side-effects to look out for. Additionally we also offer a free follow-up consultation within a month of treatment and provide a free top-up if necessary. The effects usually last up to 6 months and then further anti-wrinkle injections will be required if you wish to maintain the effect.

Yes! We personalise treatment to your face shape, size and dynamics. This ensures that you will not have a frozen appearance and instead smooth wrinkles whilst looking natural.

Please note that you are paying for the treatment only and no guarantee is made of any outcome. Refunds cannot be given under any circumstances, as the product has been used and the service has been delivered.
