Hair & Skincare Tip To Try (Licorice Root)

Licorice Root has since ancient times been used for a variety of health purposes mainly because of its anti-inflammtory and anti-ageing benefits. These benefits are thought to be because it contains coumarins, flavonoid, volatile oils, glycosides, chalcones, plant sterols, anethole and glycyrrhizic acid. For skin, licorice root is thought to particlarly be good for hyperpigmentation, acne, rosacea and eczema. Its also known to help soothe irritated scalps, regulate excess oil and well as help combat dandruff.

You will need dried Licorice root to make a brightening, anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial skin toner which can double up as a scalp treatment for the hair. Brew 2 large Licorice root sticks in half a cup of boiled water for 15 minutes. Strain the water and cooled down then place in a tincture bottle or spray bottle. For skin, double cleanse then spray or apply the toner to your face and allow to dry before using moisturiser. For hair, apply to scalp after shampooing and rinse after 15 minutes. If DIY skincare isn’t your bag but you still want to reap the benefits of Licorice root, try Acewell’s cleansing toner
