Sunday Vibes | Lisa Eldridge, Persimmons & More…

Winter has come which only means even more beauty, lifestyle and cultural pieces from us at the Modern Salon. This week we launched our “all about the eyes” series on under eye problems and treatments which has been extremely popular. So far we’ve covered under eye circles and bags but we’ve had so many more questions and requests from you. Good news is we’ve decided to extend our series to next week also and will be bringing you more eye-related beauty tips and guides. For this Sunday vibes, we’ve collected our fave pics from our beauty content and introduce one of the original Youtube beauty legends. So sit back and enjoy your Sunday with us.

YouTube Beauty Channel To Check Out

Lisa Eldrige can be summed up as the subtle and soothing voice of Youtube beauty. She brings to her channel her decades long experience as a professional makeup artist and creative director of a number of global beauty brands including Sheseido, Boots No 7 and Lancome. If that’s not enough, she’s also the author of a New York Times bestelling book called Face Paint: The Story of Makeup! With over 1.8 million subscribers, its no wonder she’s known as the Queen of Youtube makeup tutorials. Lisa Eldrige’s signature style is very pared down glowing skin with a bold lip colour to amp up the volume. The best thing about her channel though is the sheer number of tutorials which cover everyday makeup looks but also those of famous screen sirens (check out her Marilyn Monroe makeup look video) and essential tutorials such as concealer basics.

Hair & Skincare Tip To Try (Persimmons)

Persimmons are wonderfully sweet and delicious fruits popular in Asia. They’re also exceptionally pretty and fabulously good for your skin. In fact, we predict that they will be a key beauty ingredient next year especially since they’re featured in one of this season’s most anticipated skincare lines, then I met you. What makes Persimmons so special is that they’re rich in antixoidants, water and as well as Vitamins A, C and E. Taken together these ingredients are excellent for fighting sun-damage, hydrating and brightening the skin as well as smoothing wrinkles.   They can also thoroughly cleanse, nourish and moisturise the scalp and hair to give you smoother and softer locks.

For a glow making face mask, use the pulp from half a persimmon and mix it with a tablespoon of your favorite face oil (we are big on Marula right now). Apply it to freshly cleansed skin for 10-15 minutes then wipe off with a wet towel until your skin is clean. Follow up with your normal serum and moisturiser (don’t forget SPF if you’re heading out) and enjoy glowing, smoother and brighter skin!

Combine the other half of the Persimmon pulp with a nourishing hair oil (we love olive oil for this step) and massage onto freshly shampooed hair from root to tip. Leave on for 15-20 minutes then rise off with cool water before continuing with your usual hair styling routine.
